Hooray For Hollywood - Emily Cashman

Here's my review of The Imitation Game, and I posted it on Rotten Tomatoes but I don't know how to link it.

The Imitation Game was a very, very good movie. I hadn't known anything about the Enigma or much of the WWII stuff at all before seeing this movie. It was fascinating to watch and go along with the characters as they figured out how to break the code. John was my favorite character, but that’s only because I like the actor, Allen Leech (he also plays Tom Branson in Downton Abbey which is a fantastic show by the way). The ending was quite sad because I didn’t know that the English government did that to homosexual men and it was just horrible. But overall I liked the movie so much that right after it ended I went to Joseph-Beth and bought Alan Turing: The Enigma because I wanted to learn more about him and the Enigma. I recommend this movie to everyone, well maybe not little kids because they might get confused.

Okay so I want to do the movie review one but the server is down at Rotten Tomatoes so I'm just typing it here.

Interstellar Review:

Interstellar was hands down one of the best works of cinema I have seen in my life time. It has an intriguing plot with great special effects to back it up and the movie left me thinking about our world and the worlds beyond it.

Matthew McConaughey plays a farmer from the future, in a world where the only real occupation needed is farmers. M.M. however is sent on a special mission to find an inhabitable planet to replace Earth. Earth is falling to pieces and they need a plan B. So much of the plot is impossible to explain. There are also parts in the movie where the plot was very slow moving and you got a little bit bored. Also, it was an incredibly long film and by the end I was eager to head out. Nevertheless, the film was mind blowing. The special effects portrayed outer space unlike any other film ever has before.

I would recommend this to all teenagers and adults. I do suggest you come with your brain ready to work, because this film requires a lot of thinking.

Hooray for Hollywood-Leah Noble

Recently I saw the films Divergent and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, both action movies whose plots revolve around teenagers our age. Most of you are probably familiar with these movies which are both based off of top selling novels. These films have very similar plots having to do with not conforming to an oppressive government structure and, specifically in Divergent, learning to accept who you are, even if that means rebellion, a distinct feature of Mockingjay. These productions probably have more similarities than differences, especially when considering the plots. Tris (Divergent) and Katniss (Mockingjay) both have to recognize their role in causing changes in order to better the lives of the people of their nation, uniting factions (Divergent) and districts (Mockingjay).

The filming of these movies also was very similar, but did contain some slight differences. Both contain little exposition, which causes some confusion, especially in Mockingjay. The action scenes of both films are comparable, but the special effects in Mockingjay were much more intense and extraordinary. Whether it is the characters themselves or the people who played them or even the writing, in my opinion, the cast of Mockingjay, especially Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), put much more emotion and feeling into their characters than in Divergent.

Overall, I enjoyed both movies thoroughly, but liked Mockingjay more. I may be somewhat partial, having followed The Hunger Games story from the beginning, including reading all the books, but I thought there was more action and more moments that had me on the edge of my seat. I always know a good action movie is one that makes me jump from something unexpected happening, and Mockingjay did just that.

Buckets and Buckets- Caroline Totty

High School- Get into the college of my choice. One of the main reasons for high school is to work hard to get accepted into a University you would like to attend so I feel like getting into that college of choice would be on most people's bucket lists. It is definitely my number one thing because I feel like for high school I didn't have all that much of a choice of where to go, but for college if I have a good resume and transcript so many doors are opened up. College determines so many things such as where you will potentially live and work when you get out of college, who your friends will be, your favorite sports team, etc. I know I will be happy where ever i end up but getting into the college of my choice would be the best feeling.

College- By the end of college I would like to know where I am heading with my life. My worst nightmare would be to get out of college and have no idea where to go from there. I would like to have an internship or something of the sorts set up for after college before I graduate.

Life- The number one thing on my bucket list before I finish living is probably to travel the world. Yes, that is cliche but who doesn't want to see the world? We live on this huge planet with so many different cultures and historic ruins it would be a shame to not travel and miss out on seeing all of that. It would also be nice to be married and have a family to travel with and that's probably tied for first place on my lifelong bucket list.

Buckets and Buckets- Kaitlyn Nunnelley

Before I finish high school the number one thing on my bucket list would have to be finish the rest of my semesters with all A's. I haven't gotten all A's since I've been in high school and I have a better chance at doing what I want to do with my life the better my grades are. 

Before I finish college I want to be set in what I want to do. At this point I want to be an OB-GYN but who knows if I have the talent to do that kind of job. I'd like to be prepared enough to get into medical school and be able to finish it.

Before I die all I can ask for would be to be successful (and wealthy), have a healthy, happy, and beautiful family, and to be surrounded by love. Before I die I'd want my family to be happy and well off. I mean what more can you ask for?

Horray for Hollywood-Noah Welch

WARNING THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE MOST RECENT HOBBIT MOVIE

The two movies I will compare are The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (TBFA) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of The King (RTK).  Now a full disclaimer before I start the comparison, both these movies are fantastic and I enjoyed them immensely. Both movies had excellent battle scenes with armies so real you could almost believe that each person was real. However one thing I loved about RTK was the exposition.  I liked the backtracking that helped ease the audience into the story as opposed to the horrible opening of TBFA.  In TBFA I was disappointed that Smaug was so easily dispatched. It felt cheap and lame. In both movies the wonderful savior eagles could have solved most problems.     I also think that the characters were better developed in RTK. I cared more for Legolas and Gimli than the unwashed horde of dwarfs that were in TBFA. I also thought that the villains in TBFA were not as well developed as in RTK; I honestly couldn’t tell which orc Legolas was fighting on the collapsed tower in the TBFA. In my opinion there was much better drama and tension in RTK, I worried more for the characters I knew would survive(in RTK) than the ones that would die (in TBFA).  In both movies there were some great and hilarious characters. My favorite side character had to be Dain in TBFA; he was a great character even though he had few lines of dialogue. Both movies also had spectacular moments from the elf lord in TBFA slicing off the heads of orcs, while riding his moose, or Legolas in RTK slaying an Oliphant and his crew.  In conclusion both movies were fantastic, but I enjoyed The Return of the King more because of its more complete story, more identifiable characters and the fact that it was based on one book instead of 1/3 of a book.

Review on Into The Woods posted on Rotten Tomatoes

Being a Disney/fairy tale fanatic I was immediately interested in seeing this movie. I however didn't know, at first, that it was based on a Broadway musical,but I was soon filled in by my friends.All of the music in the movie was great and the cast performed it flawlessly. I really enjoy musicals because the music gives you something extra to enjoy than just the acting or production of the film. I really enjoyed the twisting together of the classic fairy tales and it reminded me of a play i did in elementary school. The casting was brilliant and I enjoyed seeing people I knew from other movies and tv shows in these classic roles. I especially enjoyed Johnny Depp as the wolf because he plays creepy characters so well. I also really enjoyed the fact that they made Chris Pine look slightly creepy as well as trying to make him seem as charming as possible. It really brought out the thought that maybe he wasn't as good a guy as stories have you believe. Overall the movie was great and I would recommend it to anyone, especially fans of Disney, Fairy Tales, or Musicals.
