Fictional Character, Fictional Life — Gabriel Molina

Usually I have to think about my answers to these blogs for a while, but as soon as I read this one I knew my answer. In the movie Braveheart, the main character is William Wallace. Technically he was a real person, but because the movie is regarded as mainly fictional, I think he can slide as my answer for this blog.

I would choose to be William Wallace not because I want his life or what he had or his circumstances or any of that. I would choose to be him because of his character. In the movie, Wallace fights for a cause that he truly and deeply believes in, and he stops at nothing to advance towards it. And what really strikes me about this is the cause is not about himself. At first the fight is for the woman he loves, and after that is taken from him, he realizes the larger cause to fight for: the freedom of his country. He dies in this cause, but valiantly. Never choosing to submit to the enemy of his country.

I would choose to be William Wallace because he was willing to die to set others free.
