on this date - Caleb Combs
On October 9, 2006, North Korea allegedly tested their first nuclear weapon. This posed a serious threat for the United States and other countries alike, as North Korea now possessed the ability to threaten other countries with their nuclear technology. The use of nuclear weapons can be devastating to entire populations of people and wildlife in a very wide area of land. Being one of the few countries to supposedly possess this ability was monumental. There was also the possibility that the North Koreans were doing nothing more than bluffing, and our nation was in no more trouble than it was previously. Politics then become a chess match, as we are unsure whether nuclear warfare is a possible move by North Korea or if it is of course a bluff. This was huge for our nation and how we handled our relationship with North Korea during this time.
