Flying Turkeys- Amelia Rogers

Thanksgiving is my third favorite holiday. I like to say that the countdown to Christmas starts with Thanksgiving. Traditionally, my family’s Thanksgiving starts with watching the Macy’s Day Parade while we (my mom) start cooking. Once we get ready and finish cooking, we go to my grandparent’s house about 30 minutes away. All of my dad’s family meets there, and we finish getting dinner ready and eat together. Then we play games and watch football while my Papaw takes a nap.

My favorite Thanksgiving memory was about four years ago. My cousin and his wife couldn’t come home for Thanksgiving until Friday, so we moved our family dinner back a day. My cousin, Allison, and I spent the night with my grandparents on Thursday night. Allison is ten years older than I am, and we’re really close, but that was probably the first sleepover we had where we just laughed and told stories and hung out together like best friends. When we woke up on Friday morning, it had snowed! It was beautiful and so unexpected. We spent the whole day helping my Mamaw cook Thanksgiving dinner and learning from her cooking expertise. I will always remember that Thanksgiving.
