One thing that really gets under my skin is homework over the holidays. Weekends included, because they may as well be holidays for how much we build them up. Considering the massive amount of time students spend during the week not only AT school, but at home doing homework, I feel it only makes sense that weekends are our deserved rest time, and that during those times, homework should be off limits. This especially applies to holiday breaks. Thanksgiving and Christmas especially are sacred times to be spent with family and friends, talking, laughing, and making memories together. It is simply ridiculous for teachers to be able to impose upon that cherished time with busy work that will only get in the way. Some teachers agree with this now, but other teachers would require more convincing. I believe that this needs to be active immediately and strictly to show the teachers we mean business. We need to start by making a law against assigning homework during any period in which school is not in session and the punishment for breaking this law ranges from verbal warning, to written warning, to suspension from teaching, to expulsion from the school entirely, to execution depending upon the severity of the crime. This simply must be stopped and we can no longer treat it as a trivial matter. Teachers must face the consequences for their thoughtless actions.
